Traveling and Being Green

It is nice to be back home after a whirlwind visit to our nation's capitol. Traveling certainly made me ultra-conscious of how difficult it is to maintain a gorgeously green lifestyle. The excess of food, water bottles, gift bags, paper handouts etc. was overwhelming. I did bring along my own water bottle and was able to use that throughout the day and made sure to hang up my towels so that they didn't get washed. It dawned on me that my culmulative actions at home are becoming easier - but when I am out of my element it is easy to slip back into prior habits.
How does everyone else maintain their G3 status when traveling?

Back on the homefront my garden is growing (as is the grass .... need to mow!), the compost it composting and I am intent on seeking out some nice second-hand stores for when the "need" for a new outfit strikes!! I would love to hear from everyone else how they are doing.

  1. So I wasn't sure which post to reply to - so I figured the most recent would do... so sorry Rachel, my comment isn't *directly* related to your post. But I will make a comment on how to stay green while traveling: I do bring my own water bottle. Took a few times before I "realized" I could bring the *empty* water bottle through security :) Then I usually find one of the fast food spots (or a water fountain) to refill before boarding the plane. The rest? Hmmm. There's no reason why we couldn't bring along a reusable bag or two - they're pretty thing & packable - just lay them in the bottom of the suitcase before putting the clothes in?

Ok, so what I really wanted to share was on the topic of shopping. A while back we went to see a movie called "Call and Response" - a movie about slave labor that is still going on today. A response that came from that movie is this website: http://chainstorereaction.com/
It gives you the ability to ask your favorite retailer to guarantee (or at least work towards guaranteeing) that their supply chain doesn't use slave or bonded labor, unfair practices, child labor, etc. Check out the website. For some reason, maybe I'm just hormonal today, some of the replies (e.g. from HP) make me tear up. :)

Oh, and I rode my bike to work today!

  2. Oh, and Ginelle, Rachelle and I are trying to start a tradition of going to Yoga together on Saturday mornings. I've gone twice now, and it's great!!
